“Is that a cabin?”, “It looks like a bus stop!”, “What is that thing?”
It is not a cabin, but if the city eventually gets here it could double as a bus stop – maybe. The new structure at the grader shed/mailbox location on 16th street is a community bulletin board. This new addition to the neighborhood was the brainchild of Shirle Ternan who envisioned a collaboration between St. Andrew’s Church and the DCA. She thought it would be great to have a place for both groups to be able to promote their upcoming events and programs in a new way.
The board is not quite finished as a flat metal surface is still to be added beside the locked cabinet. This area of the board will be open to community members and businesses to be able to put up any information they wish to let the community know about. The locked section will be for the church and the DCA’s promo posters and notifications.
This project was a collaborative effort, as all community initiatives are. Shirle got the ball rolling, Mia Staysko came up with the design, Integrity Building Products gave us community pricing on the lumber, Rod Curzon and Jim Van Gilst mulled over the best way to get ‘er done, and Rod put it together and got it installed before the deep frost set in. Thanks also have to go out to Councilor (and DCA Vice President) Alan Alger who got us permission to install it at the location.
There will be some rules around usage that we hope people will adhere to and those will be communicated once the final bit is finished. The metal facing will allow it to be durable and to be cleanable. We hope that it will be respected and will be a feature for a long time to come.
