Exciting news… and by exciting, we mean the kind of excitement only building maintenance enthusiasts usually appreciate.

After 30 years of faithful service since the hall was rebuilt, the De Winton Community Hall has a brand-new roof and is getting a new boiler system. We are also adding air conditioning to the main hall, which means future summer events may involve significantly less fanning ourselves with paper plates.

We realize “roof” and “boiler” don’t exactly rival fireworks or live entertainment, but these upgrades help keep our hall comfortable, reliable, and ready for the next generation of community gatherings.

It’s wonderfully boring news—and we’re secretly very excited about it.

These projects obviously are not inexpensive and we would like to thank some folks for helping us get them done.

The DCA received a significant grant for our roof from The Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) which provides matching grants to Alberta non-profits, charities, and First Nations/Métis Settlements to build, expand, or upgrade public-use community facilities. Thanks also must go out to the Dunbow Recreation Board who has also generously contributed grant funding. We are very grateful to have been granted this money as our roof was beginning to leak and this was a very expensive project.

We have chosen a product that should last another 30 years or more is hail and fire resistant and looks really great on the hall!

Thanks to Mel Ternan for helping us get quotes and samples to make the right choice.  Thank you to the additional volunteers who put in countless hours planning,  researching, grant writing, and doing post construction garden and grounds clean up.
